H-profiles

H-profiles are used to join components, finish joints and protect edges. Various designs serve as connecting profiles between glass, sheets or panels, for example. Their two opposing channels accommodate the material edges and form a joint between the two components. Depending on the design, the main function may be joining, protection or a neat finish. Dextr offers H-profiles for a variety of applications. We help you select a suitable standard profile or develop a custom profile.

H-profiles for joining glass, sheets and panels

An H-profile takes its name from its H-shaped cross-section. It consists of two opposing channels connected by a central section. When used as a connecting profile, each channel accommodates one component, allowing the profile to join two adjacent sheets, panels or glass panes.

These H-profiles are also known as joining profiles. Typical applications include sheet assemblies, partitions, displays and wall cladding. Depending on their design, they can be used with glass, plastic sheets or other sheet materials. The channel dimensions must match the thickness of the components.
In addition to joining components, an H-profile can help create a neat finish. The profile flanges overlap the material edges and can cover the joint between two sheets or panels, creating a clearly defined, continuous line along the joint.

Finishing joints and protecting edges

A suitable design can also protect the enclosed edges from direct contact and damage. Joining, edge protection and finishing can therefore be combined in a single profile. The main function depends on the assembly and the chosen profile geometry.

The Dextr range also includes designs with different functions. This category comprises H-profiles, a protective profile and finishing profiles. The profile shape provides the starting point; its technical design determines the applications for which it is suitable.
When selecting an H-profile, the internal dimensions are just as important as the external dimensions. The channels must fit the components they will accommodate. Channel depth and flange width also affect the fit and how far the profile overlaps the material edges.

Which H-profile suits your application?

Before selecting a profile, consider:
H-profiles are available in different geometries. The flanges may be equal or unequal, for example, while the shape of the profile legs affects their grip on a sheet. A suitable cross-section helps accommodate the components as intended. Check the profile drawing and assess the fit within the complete assembly.
Alongside the dimensions, the material determines how a profile behaves during installation and use. The required rigidity, flexibility and hardness must suit the application. Exposure to sunlight, temperature variations or cleaning agents may also influence the material selection.

  • the thickness and material of both components;
  • the required function: joining, finishing or protection;
  • the space available for the profile;
  • the required grip and installation method;
  • the conditions in which the profile will be used.

Matching the material and design to the function

Dextr processes engineering plastics and thermoplastic rubbers and develops both flexible and rigid profiles. For custom projects, we assess which material and profile construction suit the required function. Where the application calls for it, a combination of rigid and flexible zones can also be considered.
Explore the range to determine whether an existing H-profile suits your application. If the shape, dimensions or material properties do not meet your requirements, Dextr can develop a custom profile.

A standard H-profile or a custom profile

Send us a technical drawing, an existing sample or the dimensions of the components you want to join, finish or protect. Include details of how the profile will be installed and used. Based on this information, we work with you to assess which profile geometry, material and hardness suit your application.
