Glazing gaskets

A glazing gasket creates a suitable connection between glass and the surrounding frame profile. In windows, doors and other glazing systems, this connection can help keep out air and moisture and prevent direct contact between the glass and frame. Its performance depends on the complete construction and a profile that fits correctly. Dextr offers a range of glazing profiles and insert gaskets. Explore the products below or discuss a custom profile for your glazing application.

What does a glazing gasket do?

Glass does not automatically fit closely against the surrounding frame. A glazing gasket forms the connection between the two. Depending on the glazing system, the profile helps seal the space alongside the glass against air and moisture. It also provides a neat finish around the glass edge.

A suitable gasket can help prevent direct contact between the glass and frame. This matters because the glass and the surrounding construction are different materials, each with their own dimensions and response to loads or temperature changes. The gasket must therefore match the shape of the system and the space provided for it. It does not replace the other components needed to support the glass correctly.

Glazing gaskets for different applications

A glazing gasket can be used in windows, glazed doors, greenhouses and other structures where glass meets a profile or frame. The required shape, dimensions and installation method depend on the particular construction. Dextr’s range therefore includes various profile shapes, including insert gaskets.

Other seals may also be needed for the complete structure. Explore Dextr’s window seals, door seals and greenhouse rubber seals.

How to choose the right glazing gasket

Start with the glass dimensions and the space available in the frame. The shape of the groove, the required contact with the glass and the installation method also matter. Compare the gasket’s technical cross-section with the design of your glazing system.

A profile that does not make sufficient contact may not seal as intended. A profile that does not fit the available space can cause installation problems.

A standard or custom glazing profile

Dextr’s glazing gasket range includes a variety of cross-sections and designs. If you already have a glazing system, you can compare the product drawings with the connection you need.

If none of the standard profiles fits your construction, send Dextr a technical drawing, an existing sample or the dimensions of the connection. We can then assess which profile shape and material properties your application requires.
